Goals and Objectives of the Sharon Public Schools Safe and Drug Free Schools Program, 2006-2007

 

¤       Reduce the prevalence of risk factors

o      Maintain incidence of violence and illegal drug use at the elementary level

o      Reduce the incidence of violence at the middle school and high school by 10 per cent

o      Reduce the incidence of illegal drug use at the middle school and high school by 10 per cent

o      Reduce the incidence of delinquency at the middle school and high school by 10 per cent

o      Reduce the incidence of serious discipline problems at the middle school and high school by 10 per cent

 

¤       Increase the prevalence of protective factors

o      Increase the number of teachers receiving intensive training in the Facing History and Ourselves curriculum

o      Purchase Facing History and Ourselves curriculum materials

o      Provide professional development for teachers using the Facing History and Ourselves curriculum materials

o      Collect Youth Risk Behavior data and use it to focus programs and curriculum on specific areas of need

o      Instruct 300 students in the Steps to Respect curriculum

o      Work with the Alternative Learning Program to provide work-study experiences for two students

o      Work with staff and students in special education programs to develop and implement service learning initiatives to enhance studentsŐ self-esteem

o      Strengthen partnerships among students in the Team-Based Learning Program, teachers, and parents/guardians

o      Strengthen the relationships between the school and the partners listed above

o      Add an evening component to Teens Speak Out for adults (parents, law enforcement, school personnel, etc.) to focus on issues teens are currently facing
